Church and Money
This week we are focused on one of the main issues pastors and churches will face: Money.
We released an amazing conversation about the topic and really great insights and I’d love to make a few points here so you may save it, use it with your team or even share it yourself through your platforms:
The first thing we must come to grips with is: We must acknowledge there is a cultural barrier when it comes to money and churches. Maybe our culture has experienced a burnout on money because leadership has mishandled the matter, or people have misused money with wrong intentions, or, let’s be honest, people with a really poor mindset have taken leadership roles and just can’t deal with an abundance of resources when that happens, which leads to misconduct most of the times.
The first remedy we have found out to be really effective is transparency. We are really transparent when it comes to our resources. All of our balance sheets are pretty much open to anyone who wants to see. We make ourselves really accountable for the resources entrusted to us, be it by our community or external sources. And we encourage every leader to be just the same: transparent.
Talking about accountability, it is worth mentioning one of our early episodes on our podcast when we extenuated the importance of three things: accountability, responsibility and authority. A leader needs all three and without anyone of these, the relationship between leadership and resources turns really stiff and nothing really relevant happens. When we lack authority, responsibility or accountability, fear gets in the midst and nothing will go according to any plan when fear dominates the environment.
And talking about fear, here is another tip: Courage! A leader must know when it is time to step up and take over. That’s why we spend a lot of time praying. Our plan and preaching flows from prayer and without it, sooner or later we will fall into the category of leaders who have disappointed people for misconduct.
So here is the take away for this week:
Pray hard;
Plan well;
Protect yourself with the right…
That’s right, you guessed it well, and yes, it starts with P: Processes;
Preach your heart out and prioritise people over possessions.
Follow this formula and you might not be the most affluent person in your world but rest assured you’re going to be considered reliable and trustworthy.
Have an amazing week
